Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts Map: Every FHR and Hotel Collection Hotel, With Credits and Prices
Thousands of hotels, one $600 credit, and no easy way to browse them
If you carry The Platinum Card from American Express, you get up to $600 a year in hotel statement credits ($300 in each half of the calendar year) for prepaid stays booked through Amex Travel at Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) or The Hotel Collection (THC) properties. On top of the credit, each stay comes with perks like a property credit, a room upgrade when available and, at FHR hotels, daily breakfast for two.
The hard part is picking the hotel. Amex says the two programs now cover more than 3,400 hotels in 116 countries, and Amex Travel's search works one destination at a time. You can't easily see which hotels give a bigger property credit, which ones are running a free-night promotion, or which ones are cheap enough that the $300 credit covers most of the bill.
The Amex Hotel Map puts 1,916 Fine Hotels + Resorts properties and 1,474 Hotel Collection properties on one free map, with each hotel's Amex credit, current promotion and (when you sign in) the lowest nightly rate we've found.
Fine Hotels + Resorts vs. The Hotel Collection
The two programs look similar in Amex Travel, but the benefits and the cards that qualify are different:
| Fine Hotels + Resorts | The Hotel Collection | |
|---|---|---|
| Eligible cards | Platinum and Centurion | Gold, Platinum and Centurion |
| Minimum stay | None | 2 consecutive nights |
| Property credit | $100 or more, varies by hotel | $100 or more, varies by hotel |
| Breakfast | Daily breakfast for two | Not included |
| Room upgrade | On arrival, when available | At check-in, when available |
| Check-in | Noon, when available | Noon, when available |
| Check-out | Guaranteed 4 p.m. | 4 p.m., when available |
| Wi-Fi | Complimentary | Not a listed benefit |
| Counts toward Platinum $600 credit | Yes, if prepaid | Yes, if prepaid |
A few details matter more than they look:
- The $600 credit is two $300 credits. Up to $300 posts for prepaid FHR or THC bookings from January through June, and up to $300 more from July through December. Unused credit doesn't roll over.
- Prepaid is the key word. Only prepaid bookings made through Amex Travel trigger the Platinum statement credit.
- The property credit varies by hotel. It's usually $100, but the type (food and beverage, spa or general on-property charges) and the amount differ. The map shows the exact credit for each hotel.
- Gold cardholders only get The Hotel Collection. FHR is a Platinum and Centurion benefit.
How to use the Amex Hotel Map
-
Search for a destination. Type a hotel name, brand, city or country into the search bar. The map and the list update as you type.
-
Pick a program. The FHR and THC checkboxes show or hide each program. Gold cardholders can untick FHR to see only the hotels they can book with Hotel Collection benefits.
-
Narrow by price or brand. Open Filters to set a nightly price range or pick specific brands, like Four Seasons, Rosewood or Marriott.
-
Find active deals. Tick Show only hotels with ongoing promotions to see hotels running an Amex offer, such as a complimentary third or fourth night. Hover a promotion to read its booking and stay dates.
-
Sign in to see prices. With a free AwardHack account, each hotel shows the lowest nightly rate we've found, and you can Sort by lowest or highest price.
-
Click a hotel for the details. The hotel card shows its address, program, Amex credit, any promotion and the standard FHR or Hotel Collection benefits.
Tip: Switch between Map View and Search View depending on whether you're browsing a region or comparing a shortlist. Your search, filters and view are saved in the URL, so Share copies a link to exactly what you're looking at. The Recent changes button lists hotels Amex recently added to or removed from either program.
Worked example: one $300 credit, two ways
Say it's July and your second-half $300 credit is unused.
Option 1: a 2-night Hotel Collection stay. The median lowest nightly rate in our Hotel Collection data is $269. Two nights at that rate, plus taxes, comes to roughly $600 prepaid.
| What happens | Value |
|---|---|
| Platinum hotel credit posts | $300 |
| Your net cost for the room | about $300 |
| THC property credit at the hotel | $100 |
| Upgrade, noon check-in, 4 p.m. check-out | when available |
Option 2: a 1-night FHR stay. The median lowest nightly rate for Fine Hotels + Resorts is $546, so one night with taxes is often around $650. The $300 credit covers about half, and you also get breakfast for two, a property credit of at least $100 and a guaranteed 4 p.m. check-out.
Neither option is "free." The credit is worth the most when you'd have paid for a hotel on that trip anyway. If you're traveling to a city where FHR rates are high (the median in our Paris data is over $1,500 a night), a Hotel Collection property can stretch the same $300 much further.
What the data says about FHR and The Hotel Collection
These numbers come from the dataset behind the map.
3,390 hotels in 113 countries and territories. That's 1,916 FHR hotels in 109 countries and 1,474 Hotel Collection hotels in 85. No hotel is in both programs.
The Hotel Collection is much more American. 623 Hotel Collection hotels (42%) are in the US, compared with 442 FHR hotels (23%). Outside the US, FHR leans heavily on Europe and Asia:
| Country | FHR | THC |
|---|---|---|
| United States | 442 | 623 |
| Italy | 157 | 88 |
| France | 94 | 59 |
| Spain | 74 | 67 |
| United Kingdom | 67 | 72 |
| Mexico | 64 | 59 |
| Japan | 60 | 33 |
| China | 75 | 15 |
London and New York lead both programs. For FHR, London has 39 hotels, New York 38, Paris 29, Dubai 28 and Rome 24. For The Hotel Collection, London has 50, New York 35 and Paris 34.
Independents are the biggest group. 544 FHR hotels and 415 Hotel Collection hotels are listed as independent. Among chains, Marriott has the most in both (319 FHR, 205 THC), followed by Four Seasons (125) and Hyatt (91) in FHR, and Hilton (174) and Hyatt (106) in THC.
About 15% of FHR hotels give more than $100. 296 FHR hotels offer a property credit above $100, topping out at a $325 spa credit at Casadelmar in Porto-Vecchio, France. Only 65 Hotel Collection hotels go above $100, with a maximum of $200. The type of credit matters too:
| FHR credit type | Hotels |
|---|---|
| General property credit | 1,225 |
| Food and beverage credit | 595 |
| Spa credit | 95 |
The price gap is big. At our last update, the median lowest nightly rate was $546 for FHR and $269 for The Hotel Collection. 333 Hotel Collection hotels started under $200 a night, while 325 FHR hotels started at $1,000 or more.
| City | FHR median | THC median |
|---|---|---|
| Paris | $1,559 | $506 |
| New York | $991 | $346 |
| London | $867 | $420 |
| Rome | $673 | $401 |
| Tokyo | $664 | $339 |
| Dubai | $437 | $238 |
Promotions are common. 489 FHR hotels and 317 Hotel Collection hotels had an active Amex promotion at our last update. The most common FHR offer, by far, is a complimentary third, fourth or fifth night (307 hotels).
FHR, The Edit, Bilt or LHW?
Many FHR hotels are also bookable through other premium programs, each with its own perks. By exact hotel name, our data shows:
- 1,201 FHR hotels are also in Bilt's Home Away From Home collection.
- 655 FHR hotels are also in The Edit by Chase Travel.
- 234 FHR hotels are also Leading Hotels of the World members.
If you hold more than one premium card, the right booking channel depends on which credits you still have. The Hotel Credits Map shows all five programs on one map. For Chase's program specifically, see the Edit Hotels Map, and for LHW, the LHW Hotel Map.
Tips before you book
- Book prepaid through Amex Travel with your Platinum Card if you want the $300 statement credit. Pay-at-hotel rates don't count toward it.
- Mind the half-year deadline. A prepaid booking made in June uses the January to June credit, even if the stay is in the fall.
- Read the credit type. A $100 spa credit is worth less to you than a $100 food and beverage credit if you never book a massage.
- Check the promotion dates. Free-night offers usually require a minimum stay and book-by and stay-by dates.
- Remember the 2-night minimum for Hotel Collection stays.
- Add your hotel loyalty number. Many chain FHR and Hotel Collection bookings earn hotel points and elite night credit, but it depends on the brand.
- Track the credit. The Benefits Tracker shows which Platinum credits you've used this half-year.
What the Amex Hotel Map doesn't do
- It doesn't book anything. Bookings, credits and perks all happen through Amex Travel.
- Prices are a snapshot. The lowest rate is for one specific date, before taxes and fees. Your total in Amex Travel will be higher.
- Promotions can change quickly. We show what Amex was advertising at our last update. Confirm the offer and its dates in Amex Travel before you book.
- Some hotels have no price. A small share show "Price Unavailable" until we have a reliable rate.

How does the Amex Platinum $600 hotel credit work?
You get up to $300 back from January through June and up to $300 from July through December on prepaid Fine Hotels + Resorts or Hotel Collection bookings made through Amex Travel with your Platinum Card. Hotel Collection bookings still need to be at least 2 nights.

Is the FHR property credit always $100?
No. Most FHR hotels offer $100, but 296 offer more, up to $325. The type also varies: some hotels give a general property credit, others a food and beverage credit or a spa credit. The map shows each hotel's exact credit.

No. FHR benefits are for Platinum and Centurion cardholders. Gold cardholders can book The Hotel Collection, which includes a property credit and an upgrade when available, with a 2-night minimum stay.

What does "complimentary fourth night" mean on the map?
It's an Amex Travel promotion: book the required number of consecutive nights and one is free. Tick "Show only hotels with ongoing promotions" to find these hotels, and hover the offer to see its book-by and stay dates.
