Alaska Miles Calculator: Atmos Rewards Points and Status Points per Flight
Two tickets on the same Alaska flight can earn very different points
Alaska Airlines' Mileage Plan became Atmos Rewards in 2025, shared with Hawaiian Airlines. Miles are now called points, elite-qualifying miles (EQMs) became status points, and the MVP tiers became Silver, Gold, Platinum and Titanium. On Alaska and Hawaiian flights in 2026, you still earn based on how far you fly, multiplied by a rate set by your fare class, plus a bonus for your status.
That means two people in the same row can earn very different amounts. A first class J fare earns twice the distance, while a Saver fare booked today earns nothing at all. Partner flights add another twist: where you book the ticket can double what you earn.
And it's all about to change. From January 1, 2027, Atmos members choose how they earn: by distance traveled, price paid or segments flown.
The Alaska Miles Calculator does the math for both years. Add your flights and Atmos status, and it shows the points you'll earn and the status points that count toward elite tiers under the 2026 charts, then compares all three 2027 options side by side. It's free to use.
How to use the Alaska Miles Calculator
-
Pick your Atmos status. One tap: No status, Silver (25% bonus), Gold (50%), Platinum (100%) or Titanium (150%). The calculator remembers it for next time.
-
Enter your flight. Type a city or airport code for From and To. Results update as you go, with no button to press.
-
Check the airline and fare. Flights start as Alaska or Hawaiian in a main cabin fare (M, L, V, S, N, Q, O or G), the most common ticket. Change the fare class if yours is different, or switch the airline to a partner and pick the cabin.
-
Add the rest of the trip. Add a flight starts the next flight where the last one landed, with the same airline and fare. Add return trip copies your flights in reverse.
-
Switch between 2026 and 2027. The 2026 tab shows points, status points and the breakdown. The 2027 tab compares distance, price paid and segments for the same trip. To see price paid, enter the fare you paid before taxes.
How Atmos earning works on Alaska and Hawaiian flights in 2026
Alaska and Hawaiian flights share one chart, whether you book on alaskaair.com, hawaiianairlines.com or the app. You earn 100% of the distance as base points on most fares, plus a fare class bonus on premium and full-fare tickets. Status points equal the base plus the fare class bonus.
| Fare class | Cabin | Base | Fare class bonus | Total points and status points |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| J | First | 100% | 100% | 200% |
| C | First | 100% | 75% | 175% |
| D or I | First | 100% | 50% | 150% |
| Y or B | Economy | 100% | 50% | 150% |
| H or K | Economy | 100% | 25% | 125% |
| M, L, V, S, N, Q, O or G | Economy | 100% | 0% | 100% |
| X (Saver) | Economy | 0% | 0% | 0% |
Your status bonus is added on top, calculated on base points only. It boosts the points you can redeem but doesn't add status points.
Short flights earn at least 500
Alaska and Hawaiian flights under 500 miles earn as if they were 500 miles. Seattle to Portland is 129 miles, but a main cabin ticket earns 500 points and 500 status points. The calculator applies the fare class and status bonuses to the 500, so a J fare on the same flight earns 1,000. This minimum ends on January 1, 2027.
Saver fares no longer earn
Alaska cut all earning on Saver fares (its basic economy, fare class X). Saver tickets booked on or after June 11, 2026, for travel on or after August 1, 2026, earn no points and no status points. Saver tickets booked before June 11 still earn 30% of the distance; pick "X (Saver) booked before Jun 11, 2026" in the calculator for those.
Award tickets earn status points
Flights booked with Atmos points earn 1 status point per mile flown in 2026, on Alaska, Hawaiian and partners, but no redeemable points. Choose "Award ticket" as the fare.
Worked example: Seattle to New York
Seattle (SEA) to New York (JFK) is 2,415 miles each way in the calculator. Here's what one flight earns with no status:
| Fare class | Points earned | Status points |
|---|---|---|
| J (first) | 4,830 | 4,830 |
| C (first) | 4,226 | 4,226 |
| Y (full-fare economy) | 3,623 | 3,623 |
| H (economy) | 3,019 | 3,019 |
| M (main cabin) | 2,415 | 2,415 |
| X (Saver) | 0 | 0 |
Now add status. The same main cabin M fare earns:
| Atmos status | Status bonus | Total points | Status points |
|---|---|---|---|
| No status | 0 | 2,415 | 2,415 |
| Atmos Silver | 604 | 3,019 | 2,415 |
| Atmos Gold | 1,208 | 3,623 | 2,415 |
| Atmos Platinum | 2,415 | 4,830 | 2,415 |
| Atmos Titanium | 3,623 | 6,038 | 2,415 |
A Titanium member earns two and a half times the points of a member without status on the same seat, but both earn the same status points.
Partner flights: where you book matters
For partner flights, the calculator uses Alaska's cabin-level charts. In 2026, booking through Alaska earns far more than booking on the partner's own site:
| Cabin | Booked with Alaska | Booked elsewhere |
|---|---|---|
| International First | 350% | 150% |
| International Business | 250% | 125% |
| Domestic First | 150% | 150% |
| Domestic Business | 150% | 125% |
| Premium Economy | 150% | 100% |
| Economy | 100% | 50% |
| Discount Economy | 100% | 25% |
| Basic Economy or Saver | 0% | 0% |
"Booked with Alaska" means a ticket number starting with 027: bought on alaskaair.com, hawaiianairlines.com or the app, including AS flight numbers operated by partners. "Booked elsewhere" covers the partner's own site and agencies. Partner fares sold as Basic, Saver or Light earn nothing either way, and STARLUX and Philippine Airlines flights booked elsewhere don't earn status points.
On a British Airways flight from New York (JFK) to London (LHR), 3,442 miles, the calculator shows:
| Cabin | Booked with Alaska | Booked elsewhere |
|---|---|---|
| International Business | 8,605 | 4,303 |
| Economy | 3,442 | 1,721 |
| Discount Economy | 3,442 | 861 |
Booking the same seat through Alaska doubles the points in business and quadruples them in discount economy. If the fare is similar, booking through Alaska is usually the better deal for Atmos members.

2027: choose how you earn
From January 1, 2027, Atmos drops the fare class charts. Every member earns one of three ways, and the choice applies to all their flights for the year:
| Earn option | Points and status points | Award flights earn |
|---|---|---|
| Distance traveled | 1 per mile flown | 1 status point per mile |
| Price paid | 5 per $1, before taxes and fees | 1 status point per 20 points redeemed |
| Segments flown | 500 per flight | 500 status points per flight |
A few rules apply to every option:
- Status bonuses stay. Silver through Titanium still earn 25% to 150% extra on base points.
- Saver and Basic Economy earn nothing, whichever option you pick.
- No more fare class bonuses or 500-point minimum. Distance earns exactly the miles flown, even in first class.
- Price paid counts the fare plus carrier surcharges and paid seats on Alaska and Hawaiian, like Premium and Exit Row, but not taxes.
- You can change once per calendar year. Members who joined by December 31, 2026 stay on distance unless they switch. New members from January 1, 2027 start on price paid.
Partner flights follow your choice when the ticket number starts with 027 (booked through Alaska or Hawaiian) or 001 (American Airlines flights booked with American). Partner flights booked anywhere else earn by distance or segments as usual, but on price paid they use a partner chart instead of 5 points per dollar:
| Cabin | Base | Bonus | Points and status points |
|---|---|---|---|
| International Business/First | 100% | 150% | 250% |
| Domestic Business/First | 100% | 50% | 150% |
| Premium Economy | 100% | 0% | 100% |
| Economy | 50% | 0% | 50% |
| Discount Economy | 25% | 0% | 25% |
Which 2027 option earns the most?
Two quick rules from the math:
- Price paid beats distance when your fare is more than 20 cents per mile. Five points per dollar equals one point per mile at $0.20 a mile.
- Segments beat distance on flights under 500 miles. Each flight earns 500, however short.
Here's how real trips compare with no status, using sample fares before taxes. Fares are main cabin unless noted, and "RT" is round trip:
| Trip | 2026 | Distance | Price paid | Segments |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SEA–JFK RT, $400 | 4,830 | 4,830 | 2,000 | 1,000 |
| SEA–JFK first, $1,200 | 4,830 | 2,415 | 6,000 | 500 |
| SEA–LAX RT, $250 | 1,910 | 1,910 | 1,250 | 1,000 |
| HNL–OGG RT, $160 | 1,000 | 202 | 800 | 1,000 |
Long-haul economy flyers do best on distance. Premium cabin flyers who pay up do best on price paid. Island hoppers and short-haul commuters do best on segments, which keeps them where the 500-point minimum had them in 2026. Run your own trips in the calculator's 2027 tab: it shows all three options for the same flights and highlights the winner.
Atmos Rewards status in 2026
Status points earned in 2026 decide your tier for 2027. The thresholds:
| Tier | Status points needed | Status bonus on points |
|---|---|---|
| Atmos Silver | 20,000 | 25% |
| Atmos Gold | 40,000 | 50% |
| Atmos Platinum | 80,000 | 100% |
| Atmos Titanium | 135,000 | 150% |
Platinum (formerly MVP Gold 75K) and Titanium (formerly MVP Gold 100K) both require more than the old tiers did.
How far does flying get you? A Seattle to New York round trip in main cabin earns 4,830 status points, so Silver takes five round trips. In full-fare Y, the round trip earns 7,245 status points and three round trips clear Silver. The calculator shows how much of the way to your next tier each trip gets you. Status points can also come from Atmos co-branded credit cards and other partners, so flights don't have to do all the work.
Tips for earning more Atmos points
Read your fare class before you buy. On a cross-country trip in 2026, the gap between M and Y is 1,208 points each way. If a full-fare ticket costs only a little more, the extra points may cover the difference.
Avoid Saver fares if you care about points. They now earn nothing, in 2026 and 2027. A main cabin fare on the same Seattle to New York flight earns 2,415.
Book partner flights through Alaska. Doubling your earnings for the same seat is the easiest win on this page.
Pick your 2027 option with your real trips. Add the flights you expect to take next year in the 2027 tab before you choose. You can switch once a year.
Count every leg. A connection earns on each flight, and under segments flown each one is worth 500. Run your whole itinerary through the calculator, or check single legs with the Flight Distance Calculator.
Plan the redemption, too. Use the Award Flight Pricer to see what Atmos charges on the routes you want, and track your balance in the Points Tracker.
What the Alaska Miles Calculator doesn't do
- Partner charts are by cabin. Each partner airline maps its own fare classes to these cabins, so check Alaska's partner page if you're unsure which cabin your fare counts as.
- Price paid uses the fare you enter. The calculator can't look up your ticket, so enter the fare before taxes for the flights that earn on price, including surcharges and paid seats.
- Promotions aren't included. Bonus point offers, Atmos Communities challenges and credit card earning are extra.
- Distances are estimates. The calculator uses great-circle distance between airports. Alaska's posted mileage can differ by a few miles.
Frequently asked questions
Is Alaska Mileage Plan the same as Atmos Rewards?
Yes. Alaska Airlines replaced Mileage Plan with Atmos Rewards in 2025, shared with Hawaiian Airlines. Miles are now called points, elite-qualifying miles are now status points, and the MVP tiers became Atmos Silver, Gold, Platinum and Titanium.
How many Atmos points do I earn on an Alaska flight?
In 2026, you earn a percentage of the distance flown based on your fare class: 100% on most main cabin fares, up to 150% on full-fare economy and up to 200% in first class (fare class J), plus a status bonus if you have status. Flights under 500 miles earn as if they were 500 miles.
Do short Alaska and Hawaiian flights earn a minimum?
In 2026, yes. Alaska and Hawaiian flights under 500 miles earn as if they were 500 miles, so Seattle to Portland earns 500 points in main cabin. The minimum ends on January 1, 2027; members who mostly fly short hops can choose segments flown instead, which earns 500 per flight.
Do Alaska Saver fares earn points?
Not anymore for new bookings. Saver fares booked on or after June 11, 2026, for travel on or after August 1, 2026, earn no points and no status points. Saver tickets booked before June 11 still earn 30% of the distance. In 2027, Saver and Basic Economy fares earn nothing under any earn option.
How many status points do I need for Atmos Silver?
Atmos Silver requires 20,000 status points, Gold 40,000, Platinum 80,000 and Titanium 135,000. Status points earned in 2026 set your tier for 2027.
Do status bonuses count toward status?
No. The status bonus (25% for Silver up to 150% for Titanium) adds redeemable points only. Status points come from the base and fare class bonus.
Should I book partner flights on AlaskaAir.com or the partner's website?
For Atmos earning, AlaskaAir.com is usually better. In the calculator, a British Airways business class flight from New York to London earns 8,605 points booked through Alaska and 4,303 booked on the partner's site.
Does the calculator support Hawaiian Airlines flights?
Yes. Hawaiian flights earn on the same chart as Alaska flights, whether you book on alaskaair.com or hawaiianairlines.com, so choose "Alaska or Hawaiian" and your fare class.
Will Atmos earning change in 2027?
Yes. Starting January 1, 2027, members choose to earn by distance traveled (1 point per mile), price paid (5 points per dollar, before taxes) or segments flown (500 points per flight). Fare class bonuses and the 500-point minimum end. The calculator's 2027 tab compares all three for your trip.
Which 2027 earning option should I choose?
It depends on how you fly. Price paid beats distance when your fare is more than 20 cents per mile, which favors premium cabins. Segments beat distance on flights under 500 miles, like Hawaii inter-island hops. Long economy trips usually earn most on distance. Current members stay on distance unless they switch, and you can change once a year.
What happens if I don't choose how I earn in 2027?
Members who joined Atmos Rewards by December 31, 2026 keep earning by distance traveled. New members who join on or after January 1, 2027 start on price paid. Either way, you can switch to another option once per calendar year, and the change applies to future trips.
Do Atmos status bonuses still apply in 2027?
Yes. Silver earns a 25% bonus, Gold 50%, Platinum 100% and Titanium 150% on base points under all three 2027 options. On price paid, a Gold member's $400 fare earns 2,000 base points plus a 1,000-point bonus. The bonus is redeemable points only and doesn't add status points.
The bottom line
Your fare class, your status and where you book decide how many Atmos points a flight earns in 2026, and the differences are big: zero on a Saver fare, twice the distance in first class, and double on a partner flight booked through Alaska. In 2027, the bigger decision is which way you earn. Run your trips through the Alaska Miles Calculator before you book and before you choose, then use the Award Flight Pricer to decide where those points go.
