Where's This Hotel? The Daily Hotel Geography Game

Five hotels, one world map

Where's This Hotel? shows you five photos of luxury hotels. For each one, drop a pin on the world map where you think it is. The closer you are, the more points you score, up to 25,000 for a perfect round.

The daily five are the same for everyone and change at midnight, so you can compare scores with friends and keep a streak going. Practice deals a fresh five whenever you want more.

How to play

  1. Study the photo. Architecture, roofs, plants, the color of the sea, mountains on the horizon: everything is a clue. Tap the photo to see it bigger.
  2. Zoom in. Tap the region you think it's in, and the map zooms in so you can be precise.
  3. Drop your pin. Tap where you think the hotel is. Tap again to move it, then lock in your guess.
  4. See how close you were. The map draws a line from your pin to the hotel, and you see its name, city and the perks you'd get booking it through a card's hotel program.

Scoring

Each photo is worth up to 5,000 points. A pin within 25 km of the hotel scores the full 5,000. After that the score roughly halves with every 1,000 km you're off:

Distance from the hotelPoints
25 km or less5,000
100 km4,678
250 km4,232
500 km3,583
1,000 km2,567
2,000 km1,318
3,000 km677
5,000 km178

Stuck? You can reveal the hotel's country, but that photo then scores half.

Your share card shows one square per photo: green for 4,000 or more, yellow for 2,500 or more, orange for 1,000 or more, red below that.

Where the hotels come from

Every photo is one of 386 hotels in 125 countries, all on the hotel lists that come with premium travel cards: Amex Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection, Chase's The Edit, Leading Hotels of the World, and the resorts where the Hilton Honors Aspire card's resort credit works. The game takes at most one hotel per city, and gives big countries more photos without letting any one country take over.

When you find one you'd like to stay at, the Hotel Credits Map shows every hotel on these lists with its credits and perks, and each hotel's page lists what you get when you book it.

Strategy tips

  • Read the landscape first. Palm trees and turquoise water narrow it to the tropics; snow and pines to mountains or the far north.
  • Look at the building. Whitewashed walls point to the Mediterranean, timber chalets to the Alps, glass towers to big cities.
  • Hedge when unsure. A pin in the middle of a likely region scores better than a confident guess on the wrong side of it.
  • Save the hint. Revealing the country costs half the points, so use it only when you can't pick a continent.

Frequently asked questions

How is each photo scored?

Up to 5,000 points. A pin within 25 km of the hotel scores the full 5,000, and the score roughly halves with every 1,000 km you're off: about 3,580 at 500 km, 2,570 at 1,000 km and 1,320 at 2,000 km. Revealing the country halves that photo's points.
