Points Tracker: Track Every Points and Miles Balance and Stop Them From Expiring

Points don't announce that they're about to disappear

If you collect points seriously, your balances are spread across a dozen logins: two or three airlines, a couple of hotel chains, and whatever bank currencies your cards earn. Nobody checks all of them every month, and that's exactly how points get lost.

Many programs quietly wipe your balance after a stretch without activity. Avianca LifeMiles expire after 12 months without earning (redeeming doesn't count). IHG One Rewards points expire after 12 months for members without elite status. American AAdvantage, Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott give you 24 months. Others, like Emirates and Singapore KrisFlyer, expire on a fixed schedule no matter how active you are.

The Points Tracker puts every balance on one page. For each program you record the balance, your last activity date and how long the program lets points sit. The tracker works out the expiration date, shows what each balance is worth in dollars, and flags the ones running out of time.

How to use the Points Tracker

  1. Sign in and click Add Balance. Your balances are saved to your AwardHack account.

  2. Search for the program. Type an airline, hotel or credit card program. The tracker covers the same 36 programs as the Points Valuator.

  3. Enter the balance. Type it into Number of Miles / Points.

  4. Set Last Activity and Expires In (Months). Last Activity is the date of your most recent qualifying activity. Expires In is the program's inactivity window, in months. Enter 0 for points that never expire. The Status line in the form shows the resulting expiration date before you save.

  5. Click Save Balance. The balance appears as a card showing the points, its Estimated Worth in dollars, the Valuation in cents per point, your last activity date and an expiration badge.

  6. Sort to find what needs attention. Sort by Expiring First to put the most urgent balances on top, or by Dollar Value ($) to see where most of your value sits. You can also sort by Recently Added, Alphabetical, Amount of Points or Last Activity.

Tip: When you earn or redeem in a program, open the balance with Edit and move Last Activity to today. The expiration date resets automatically.

What the tracker shows you

Four summary cards sit above your balances:

  • Total Points: every point and mile you hold, across all programs.
  • Total Net Worth: each balance multiplied by its benchmark value, added up in dollars.
  • Expiring Soon: how many balances expire within the next 6 months.
  • Nearest Expiration: the next expiration date and the program it belongs to.

Each balance card carries a status badge:

BadgeWhat it means
Never ExpiresExpires In is set to 0
Expires (date)More than 3 months to go
Expiring soon (months)3 months or less to go
ExpiredThe expiration date has passed

Balances expiring within 90 days also show up as urgent actions on your AwardHack dashboard.

Worked example: a four-program wallet in October 2026

ProgramBalanceLast activityExpires inExpirationWorth
AAdvantage60,000Feb 202524 monthsFeb 2027$1,536.00
LifeMiles35,000Dec 202512 monthsDec 2026$997.50
IHG One Rewards40,000Nov 202512 monthsNov 2026$272.00
United45,000Mar 20260 (never)Never$895.50

The tracker shows 180,000 points worth $3,701 in total. Three of the four balances, worth $2,805.50, expire within the next six months, and the LifeMiles and IHG cards are already flagged Expiring soon.

Without the tracker, the United balance is the one you'd probably check, because it's the airline you fly. It's also the one that can't expire. The urgent balances are the ones you rarely think about.

Expiration rules for every program in the tracker

Use this table to fill in Expires In (Months). Rules are as of October 2026. Programs do change them, so check your account if a large balance is at stake.

Credit card points

Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou, Capital One miles, Wells Fargo Rewards, Barclays points and Brex points don't expire while your account is open, so enter 0. Bilt markets its points as never expiring as long as your account stays active.

The catch is closing a card. Close your last card in a program and you can lose the points with it. Move or use them before you cancel.

Fixed-term programs need a different date

The tracker counts forward from Last Activity. For programs where activity doesn't reset the clock (Emirates, KrisFlyer, Miles & More, SKYPASS, and Wyndham's four-year limit), set Last Activity to the date your oldest miles were earned instead. The expiration date then matches when that first batch runs out.

Upcoming changes worth knowing

  • Air Canada Aeroplan: the pause on expiration ends November 30, 2026. After that, the 18-month inactivity rule applies again unless you hold an Aeroplan credit card.
  • Flying Blue: since May 4, 2026, any eligible activity, including earning with partners and transferring in points, extends your whole balance for 24 months.
  • Emirates Skywards: from June 1, 2027, new miles will expire 3 years after the activity that earned them, at the end of that month.

How to keep points from expiring

Most inactivity rules only need one small transaction. A few habits cover nearly every program:

  • Transfer a few bank points in. For programs that count transfers as activity, such as AAdvantage, Hilton, Hyatt and Flying Blue, moving a small number of points from a bank program resets the clock. Check the Transfer Tool for which bank currencies transfer where.
  • Earn, don't just redeem, where it matters. LifeMiles only count earning. Redeeming won't save them.
  • Hold the right card. An AAdvantage, Aeroplan, Allegiant or Hyatt credit card keeps those balances safe, and IHG credit cards come with elite status, which exempts you from IHG's 12-month rule.
  • Log it. Every time you earn or redeem, update Last Activity so the tracker's dates stay right.

If a balance is about to expire and you can't extend it, using it on a modest redemption beats losing it. The Points vs Cash calculator shows what a given award is worth against the cash price.

Free vs Pro

The Points Tracker is free with an AwardHack account. The free plan includes up to 2 balances with full insights. You can add more, but balances beyond the first two are locked and left out of the summary until you upgrade to Pro, which unlocks unlimited balances. Pro also adds a partner profile, so you can track a partner's points separately and assign each balance to the right person.

What the Points Tracker doesn't do

  • It doesn't connect to your loyalty accounts. You enter and update balances yourself, which also means you never share a loyalty password.
  • It doesn't look up expiration rules for you. Use the tables above to fill in Expires In.
  • It doesn't log redemptions. To track the value you got from each award, use the Redemption Tracker.
  • It doesn't track certificates. Free night awards and companion passes have their own expiration dates. Track them in the Certificate Tracker.

Frequently asked questions

Do airline miles expire?

Some do. Of the 21 airline programs in the tracker, Alaska Atmos Rewards, Delta, JetBlue, Southwest, United and Virgin Atlantic don't expire. Others expire after 12 to 36 months without activity, and Emirates, Singapore KrisFlyer, Lufthansa Miles & More and Korean Air SKYPASS expire on a fixed schedule.

Which hotel points expire the fastest?

IHG One Rewards points expire after 12 months without activity for members without elite status. Choice Privileges and Wyndham Rewards use 18 months, and Hilton, Hyatt, Marriott and Radisson use 24 months.

What should I enter in Expires In (Months)?

Enter the program's inactivity window: for example, 24 for Marriott, 12 for LifeMiles, and 0 for programs that never expire, like United or Delta. The tables on this page list the number for every program in the tracker.

How do I keep my points from expiring?

Make one qualifying transaction before the deadline: earn or redeem points, buy a small amount, or transfer in from a bank program where that counts. Check what counts first. LifeMiles, for example, only count earning.

Do credit card points expire?

Amex Membership Rewards, Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou, Capital One and Wells Fargo points don't expire while your card account is open. Closing your last card in a program can forfeit them, so move or use the points first.

How does the tracker calculate what my points are worth?

It multiplies each balance by AwardHack's benchmark value for that program in cents per point, then adds the results. That's the same valuation the Points Valuator uses.

How many balances can I track for free?

Up to 2 balances with full insights. Additional balances are saved but locked until you upgrade to Pro.

Does the Points Tracker connect to my airline and hotel accounts?

No. You enter balances and dates yourself. Nothing is pulled from your loyalty accounts, and you never have to share a login.

The bottom line

Expired points are the most expensive mistake in this hobby, and the easiest to avoid. Add each balance once, set its expiration window, and sort by Expiring First whenever you check in. The balance about to disappear is rarely the one you were thinking about.
