Transfer Partners Tool: See Exactly What Your Points Become Before You Transfer

A points transfer is a one-way door

Credit card points are only worth what you turn them into. Chase, Amex, Capital One, Citi, Bilt and others let you move points into dozens of airline and hotel programs, but the rate isn't always 1:1, some transfers take days, and once the points land they almost never come back.

The Transfer Tool shows you, for any pair of programs, the transfer ratio, the typical processing time, how many miles or points you'll actually receive, and whether a transfer bonus is running right now. It covers more than 160 transfer routes between 9 points currencies (8 bank and fintech programs plus Marriott Bonvoy) and 50+ airline and hotel programs.

How to use the Transfer Tool

The tool has two tabs: Direct Transfers and Multi-Hop.

  1. Pick your points in "Flexible Points (From)". Choose the currency you hold, for example Chase Ultimate Rewards. The "To" list narrows to the programs that currency can reach.

  2. Or start from the program you need. Pick an airline or hotel in "Transfer Partners (To)" first and the "From" list narrows to the currencies that transfer there. This is the fastest way to answer "which of my points can get me to United?"

  3. Read the ratio and transfer time. As soon as both sides are set, the tool shows the transfer ratio and the typical time the transfer takes to post.

  4. Enter an amount (optional). Type the number of points you plan to move in "Points to transfer" and the tool shows how many you'll receive.

  5. Check for a bonus. If the pair has an active transfer bonus, an "Active Transfer Bonus" box shows the bonus rate and end date, and the bonus miles are added to your total automatically. A banner above the tool also counts all bonuses running today and links to the Transfer Bonus Tracker.

  6. Use Multi-Hop for indirect routes. On the Multi-Hop tab, pick the points you hold and the program you want to reach. The tool lists the direct path (if there is one) plus every path through one intermediate program, best rate first, with what 1,000 points become at the end.

Use Reset to clear both fields and start over.

How to read a transfer ratio

A ratio of A:B means A points out of your account become B points in the partner program.

Ratio shownWhat 1,000 points becomeExample in the data
1:11,000Chase to United MileagePlus
1:22,000Amex to Hilton Honors
1:1.61,600Amex to Aeromexico Rewards
5:4800Amex to Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
4:3750Capital One to Japan Airlines
3:2666Bilt to Accor Live Limitless
3:1333Marriott Bonvoy to most airlines

Some ratios appear in the tool in an unreduced form. 2:1.5 is the same as 4:3, and 1:0.8 is the same as 5:4.

A bigger number on the right isn't automatically a better deal. The AwardHack Points Valuator currently values Hilton points at about 0.59 cents each and Air Canada Aeroplan miles at about 1.87 cents. So 1,000 Amex points sent to Hilton at 1:2 are worth roughly $11.80, while the same 1,000 points sent to Aeroplan at 1:1 are worth roughly $18.70. Always compare value, not just the number of points.

Worked example: 60,000 points, three different outcomes

1. Amex to Flying Blue with a bonus. In October 2026, Amex ran a 25% bonus on transfers to Air France-KLM Flying Blue (October 1 to 31). Select Amex Membership Rewards and Flying Blue, enter 60,000, and the tool shows:

  • Base transfer at 1:1: 60,000 miles
  • 25% bonus: 15,000 miles
  • You receive: 75,000 Flying Blue miles

Same points, 25% more miles, just by timing the transfer.

2. Marriott to United. Select Marriott Bonvoy and United, enter 60,000, and the tool shows 20,000 miles at the standard 3:1 rate. Marriott has long added extra miles on 60,000-point transfers to most airlines (and a larger amount for United), but the tool shows the base rate only, so check Marriott's transfer page for the current bonus. Either way, that's a steep conversion compared with a 1:1 bank transfer.

3. Amex to Alaska Airlines, which Amex doesn't partner with. Amex has no direct route to Alaska Airlines (Atmos Rewards). On the Multi-Hop tab, select Amex Membership Rewards and Alaska Airlines, and the tool finds one path: Amex to Marriott at 1:1, then Marriott to Alaska at 3:1. Result: 1,000 Amex points become about 333 Alaska miles. It works, but it costs two-thirds of your points' mileage. Bilt, which transfers to Alaska at 1:1, is the far better source if you have it.

Transfer facts: what 170+ transfer routes tell us

These figures come from the tool's transfer data and the AwardHack transfer bonus tracker, as of October 2026.

Most bank transfers are 1:1 and instant

Of the 144 transfer routes from bank and fintech currencies (everything except Marriott Bonvoy), about 78% transfer at 1:1 and about 73% typically post instantly. The exceptions are where you lose value without noticing: Emirates, Cathay Pacific, JetBlue, Japan Airlines, EVA Air, Accor and (for most Chase cards) World of Hyatt all have at least one source that transfers at less than 1:1.

The same airline can have very different ratios

Emirates Skywards is the clearest example. Five currencies transfer to it at four different rates:

SourceRatio1,000 points become
Bilt Rewards1:11,000
Amex Membership Rewards5:4800
Citi ThankYou Rewards5:4800
Capital One Miles4:3750
Brex Rewards3:2666

If you hold more than one currency, the tool's "To first" search shows you every source for a program so you can pick the cheapest one.

Flying Blue is the one program everyone reaches

Air France-KLM Flying Blue is the only program that every currency in the tool transfers to: Chase, Amex, Capital One, Citi, Bilt, Wells Fargo, Rove, Brex and Marriott Bonvoy. Virgin Atlantic Flying Club and Avianca LifeMiles come close.

The big US airlines are locked to one or two banks

Airline programBank points that transfer at 1:1
United MileagePlusChase, Bilt
American Airlines AAdvantageCiti
Delta SkyMilesAmex
Alaska Airlines (Atmos Rewards)Bilt
Southwest Rapid RewardsChase, Bilt

Marriott Bonvoy also reaches all five, but at 3:1. If you fly one US airline most of the time, this table matters more than any other when picking a card.

Marriott has the most partners, at the worst rate

Marriott Bonvoy transfers to 35 airline programs, more than any bank currency, but almost all at 3:1 (Air New Zealand is 200:1). Some of those airlines, including LATAM, Virgin Australia, Asiana and Aegean, can't be reached from any bank currency in the tool. Marriott is also the bridge that makes the Multi-Hop tab work: Chase, Amex and Bilt all transfer to Marriott at 1:1.

Transfer bonuses are frequent and predictable

The AwardHack tracker has logged nearly 500 transfer bonuses since 2017. In the 12 months to October 2026 it recorded 88 bonuses. Chase ran the most (23), followed by Amex (16) and Citi (15). The most common bonus sizes were 30%, 20% and 25%, and the programs that received bonuses most often were Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Air France-KLM Flying Blue and Avianca LifeMiles. See what's live on the Transfer Bonus Tracker, or check when a bonus is likely to return with the Transfer Bonus Predictor.

Transfer partners by points currency

Each table lists every partner for that currency, the ratio, and the typical time for points to post. Times are typical, not guaranteed.

Chase Ultimate Rewards (14)

Chase has the shortest list of the big banks, but it includes United, Southwest and World of Hyatt, which most other banks don't. To transfer, you generally need a Sapphire Preferred, Sapphire Reserve or Ink Business Preferred card.

Hyatt note: Since October 1, 2026, Chase transfers to Hyatt at 4:3 (750 Hyatt points per 1,000) for Sapphire Preferred, Ink Business Preferred and some legacy Ink cardholders. Sapphire Reserve cardholders keep 1:1.

Tips before you transfer

Find the award seat first. Transfers are almost always one-way and final. Confirm the seat is bookable with the program before you move a single point. The Award Booking Guide shows which programs book which airlines and when they release award seats.

Watch the slow transfers. Most bank transfers are instant, but some aren't: Amex to ANA typically takes 2 to 3 days and Amex to Aeromexico 2 to 12 days. Marriott transfers often take days or weeks. Award space can disappear while you wait.

Transfer only what you need. Points sitting in an airline program are exposed to that program's devaluations. Points left in your bank account keep all their options open.

Time it with a bonus when you can. A 25% or 30% bonus is common, and on a big transfer that's thousands of free miles. If you don't need to book today, check the Transfer Bonus Predictor before you move points.

Match the names on both accounts. Transfers usually require the name on your loyalty account to match the name on your card or bank account. Fix any mismatch before you start.

What the Transfer Tool doesn't do

Being clear about limits saves you from surprises:

  • No award prices or availability. The tool tells you what your points become, not what a flight costs. Use the Award Flight Pricer for miles pricing, then confirm seats with the airline.
  • One ratio per pair. Some banks set different ratios by card (Citi's no-fee cards, Chase Sapphire Preferred vs. Reserve to Hyatt). The calculator uses one standard ratio for each pair and shows a note where the ratio depends on your card, so check your card's terms.
  • No Marriott airline bonus. Marriott's extra miles on 60,000-point transfers aren't included in the calculation.
  • "Up to" bonuses use the top rate. When a bonus is tiered ("up to 35%"), the calculator applies the highest tier, which may require a larger transfer or a specific card.
  • Multi-Hop goes through one stop. Paths can include at most one intermediate program. In practice that's Marriott Bonvoy, the only program in the data that both receives and sends points.
  • Partner lists change. Banks add and drop partners several times a year. Confirm the ratio on your bank's transfer page before you submit.

Frequently asked questions

What are Chase's transfer partners?

Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers at 1:1 to Aer Lingus, Air Canada Aeroplan, Air France-KLM Flying Blue, British Airways, Iberia, JetBlue, Singapore Airlines, Southwest, United, Virgin Atlantic, IHG, Marriott Bonvoy and Wyndham. World of Hyatt is 1:1 for Sapphire Reserve cardholders and 4:3 for Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders since October 1, 2026.

Which credit card points transfer to United?

Chase Ultimate Rewards and Bilt Rewards both transfer to United MileagePlus at 1:1. Marriott Bonvoy points also transfer to United, at 3:1. Amex, Capital One and Citi don't transfer to United.

Which credit card points transfer to American Airlines or Delta?

Citi ThankYou Rewards is the only bank currency that transfers to American Airlines AAdvantage, and Amex Membership Rewards is the only one that transfers to Delta SkyMiles. Both are 1:1. Marriott Bonvoy reaches both at 3:1.

How long do points transfers take?

Most bank transfers post instantly or within a few minutes. In the tool's data, about three-quarters of bank and fintech transfers are typically instant. Some take longer, such as Amex to ANA (2 to 3 days) and most Marriott to airline transfers (often 2 days or more). Search the pair in the tool to see its typical time.

Can I undo a points transfer?

Almost never. Once points land in an airline or hotel program, banks generally won't move them back. That's why it's worth confirming award availability before you transfer.

Which bank has the most transfer partners?

Capital One, Citi and Bilt each transfer to more than 20 partners. Amex has around 20, and Chase has the shortest list of the big banks. Marriott Bonvoy transfers to 35 airlines, but at 3:1. More partners isn't always better: the right partners for the trips you take matter more.

Is a 1:2 transfer better than a 1:1 transfer?

Not necessarily. You get more points, but hotel points are usually worth less each. 1,000 Amex points become 2,000 Hilton points, worth roughly $11.80 by AwardHack's current valuation, while 1,000 Amex points sent to Aeroplan are worth roughly $18.70.

How often do transfer bonuses happen?

Often. AwardHack's tracker logged 88 transfer bonuses in the 12 months to October 2026, most commonly 20% to 30%. The Transfer Tool adds any active bonus to your total automatically, and the Transfer Bonus Tracker lists every bonus live today.

Should I transfer Marriott points to airlines?

Usually only to top off an account or reach an airline no bank currency can. At 3:1, 60,000 Marriott points become 20,000 miles before any Marriott bonus. If you have bank points that transfer to the same airline at 1:1, use those instead.

The bottom line

The transfer ratio decides how far your points go, and it varies more than most people expect: the same 1,000 points can become 1,000, 800, 750 or 666 Emirates miles depending on where they come from. Search your pair in the Transfer Tool, check for a bonus, and confirm award space before you move anything. Then use the Award Flight Pricer to make sure the program you're transferring to is the cheapest way to book.
