Application rules
Counts toward 5/24
Opening it takes one of your Chase 5/24 slots.
Once per lifetime
You may not get the Platinum card's welcome bonus if you have or have had it before. Amex can also withhold the bonus based on your history with Amex and how many cards you've opened and closed, and it tells you before it processes your application, so you can withdraw.
Charge card
This card has no preset spending limit, so it doesn't count toward Amex's limit of about five credit cards or its one-in-five-days and two-in-90-days approval limits. Amex usually allows up to about ten of these cards at once.
Family sequencing
If you also want the Gold card's welcome bonus, get the Gold first: once you've had any Platinum card, Amex may not give you the Gold's bonus.
Product changes
- Downgrade to Gold Β· You keep your Membership Rewards points. If you've had the Platinum, you likely can't get the Gold's welcome bonus anyway, so downgrading costs you nothing there.
- Downgrade to Green (Classic Green) Β· The Green card is closed to new applicants, but Amex has still been letting cardholders move into it. You keep your Membership Rewards points.
