Lounge access

15 Delta Sky Club visits per Medallion Year (Feb 1 to Jan 31) when flying Delta, unlimited after $75,000 in purchases in a calendar year (extra visits $50); four one-time guest passes per year (max 2 per visit), otherwise up to 2 guests at $50 each. Centurion Lounge access on same-day Delta flights booked with the card, with up to 2 guests at $50 (ages 2-17: $30).

  Opening it takes one of your Chase 5/24 slots.

• Once per lifetime

  You may not get the Delta SkyMiles Reserve's welcome bonus if you have or have had it before. Amex can also withhold the bonus based on your history with Amex and how many cards you've opened and closed, and it tells you before it processes your application, so you can withdraw.

• 1 in 5 rule

  Amex usually approves no more than one of its credit cards every five days. Cards with no preset spending limit, like the Platinum and Gold, don't count.

• 2 in 90 velocity

  Amex usually approves no more than two of its credit cards in any 90-day period. Cards with no preset spending limit don't count.

• Amex credit card limit

  Amex usually lets you hold up to five of its credit cards at once, personal and business combined. Cards with no preset spending limit don't count toward that limit.

• Family sequencing

  If you also want the personal Delta Gold or Platinum welcome bonus, get those first: once you've had the Reserve, Amex may not give you their bonuses.
